A slow burn love story that feels more genuine than what tends to be featured in Hollywood films. The overarching theme is the concept of “inyeon”—a Korean word that defines a kind of fate in relationships. It’s a beautiful notion on its own but is made real via the stages of Nora and Hae Sung’s lives that we’re shown. Immigration is another core theme but you don’t have to be an immigrant to feel a sense of familiarity and connection with the story.
There’s a deep yearning that permeates the runtime and the subtle performances given by its leads make it palpable. Each interaction is grounded in a way that almost feels voyeuristic and the story’s resolution feels true to the complex lives we live rather than serving some romantic obligation to its genre.
